PVCu patio doors, explained
The Imagine patio door is VEKA's inline sliding door: two, three or four panes that glide on a track, one-handed, with a slim frame that keeps the view almost uninterrupted. It is the most economical way to a wide glazed opening and, because the panels slide rather than swing, it barely touches the living space. We fabricate it at our factory in Pyle to your opening size, with PAS 24:2022 security and U-values down to 1.4 W/m²K double glazed.
The appeal of the Imagine patio door is the view. Slim sightlines and large panes provide virtually unhindered sight of the garden, and the door glides easily with one hand on performance hardware. Because nothing swings into the room, furniture can sit close to the opening and the door works well in kitchens, dining rooms and smaller extensions where a bifold would be in the way.
There is no need to choose between style and function. For clean-cut lines choose a bevelled frame; to soften the appearance choose the rounded detail of a sculptured frame. Inside, a flush frame blends into the room and gives an exceptionally neat plaster line. The colour collection has been developed with a variety of homes in mind: smooth colours for a contemporary feel, woodgrains to echo painted or stained timber, and dual colour, so you might have Anthracite Grey outside and white inside to suit the décor.
Performance is tested rather than claimed. VEKA publish U-values down to 1.4 W/m²K with double glazing and 1.2 W/m²K with triple glazing, air permeability Class 3 and water tightness Class 5A. The door is certified to PAS 24:2022 and can meet Secured by Design. A low threshold option gives level access for Part M compliance.
Configurations run from a two-pane door with one sliding leaf to three- and four-pane arrangements for wide openings, sliding internally or externally, in the Variations colour and woodgrain range. Trade customers can send sizes for a written quotation; homeowners can ask us to survey and install.

Configurations
Two pane
One fixed pane and one sliding leaf, sliding left or right. The classic patio door.
Three pane
A central or offset slider between fixed panes for wider openings.
Four pane
Two sliding leaves meet in the middle over two fixed panes: a wide, symmetrical opening.
Internal or external slide
The sliding leaf can run on the inside or the outside track to suit the room.

If you want to open the back of the house to the garden on a sensible budget, a PVCu patio door is where to start. Think about which way you want the leaf to slide (usually away from the kitchen side), whether you want a low threshold for step-free access, and the colour inside and out. Most customers choose an A-rated double glazed unit; triple glazing is available if the room is hard to heat.

Questions about PVCu patio doors
Bifold or sliding doors: which should I choose?
Bifolds open up almost the whole width of the opening, which is ideal if you want the room and garden to become one space in summer. Sliding doors keep larger panes and slimmer frames, so the view is better when closed, which is most of the year in Wales. Sliding doors also avoid a stack of folded panels. If the opening is wide and tall, or you want the biggest glass, choose sliding; if you want the widest clear opening, choose bifold. Our guide on bifold or sliding doors compares them in detail.
What threshold options are there for doors?
A rebated (weathered) threshold gives the best protection against driving rain and is the usual choice on exposed elevations. Low threshold options reduce the step for easier access, and level thresholds suit sheltered openings or where Part M level access is required. The VEKA Imagine patio door has a Part M compliant low threshold option and the Smart Visofold and Visoglide systems offer low and level options.
What do PAS 24 and Secured by Design mean?
PAS 24 is the British security standard for doors and windows. A PAS 24 product has passed physical attack tests on the frame, locks and hinges. Secured by Design is the UK police initiative that specifies PAS 24 products together with other measures for new homes. All of the window and door systems we fabricate are PAS 24 tested, and the VEKA and Smart systems are capable of meeting Secured by Design when specified with the appropriate hardware and glass.
Can I have a different colour inside and outside?
Yes. Dual colour is available on the VEKA PVCu systems (a woodgrain or colour foil outside with white inside is the usual request) and on the Smart aluminium systems, where inside and outside faces can be powder coated in different RAL colours. Tell us both colours when you ask for a quotation.
